Scientific files patent suit against Johnson&Johnson http://money.iwon.com/jsp/nw/nwdt_rt.jsp?section=news&news_id=reu-n31338968&feed=reu&date=20030331&cat=INDUSTRY Medical
device maker Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) is suing to stop rival Johnson &
Johnson (JNJ) from launching U.S. sales of a new drug-coated stent for treating
clogged arteries, the company said on Monday in a regulatory filing. Boston
Scientific said it filed a lawsuit earlier this month in U.S. District Court in
Delaware charging that J&J's Cypher drug-coated stent infringes a Boston
Scientific patent. The products at the center of this latest round of litigation
between Boston Scientific and J&J are tiny medicine-coated tubes used to
keep scar tissue from reclogging arteries that have been surgically cleared. The
drug-coated devices are expected to eventually become the dominant treatment for
clogged arteries, doubling the stent market to sales estimated at $5 billion a
year.
Index Cephalon sues over patents http://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2003/03/31/daily8.html Cephalon
Inc. of West Chester, Pa., said Monday it has filed patent infringement lawsuits
against four generic drug manufacturers for allegedly violating its U.S. patent
covering the formulation of modafinil contained in Provigil, a treatment for
daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy. The suits were filed against Teva
Pharmaceuticals USA Inc., Mylan Pharmaceutical Inc., Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals
Inc. and Barr Laboratories Inc. at U.S. District Court in New Jersey. Cephalon
claims its patent for Provigil does not expire until 2014. The generic drug
companies intend to argue the patent is invalid.

Method of telephone access to
internet secretarial services
Abstract: A method
of telephone access to internet secretarial services. A client makes a
telephonic information request to the internet secretary, who is in contact with
the internet via high-speed internet connection. The internet secretary sends an
internet search query, and forwards the resultant search results to the client.
In one embodiment of the instant invention, the client uses toll telephone lines
(such as a "900") number. A telephone company receives call rate and time
information, and forwards secretarial services charges to the internet
secretary. The client pays the telephone company for secretarial services
charges and telephone service costs. In an alternate embodiment of the instant
method the client calls the internet secretary via toll-free lines, and supplies
the internet secretary credit card information and/or debit card information to
pay the secretarial services charges. The internet secretary pays the telephone
communications costs. In either embodiment, the client may request that the
internet secretary transmit information to one or more third parties, and pay
for this service via credit card and/or debit card.

Method and apparatus for tracking
and prompting the recitation of the rosary
Background: The
Catholic Rosary is a series of repetitious prayers recited in honor of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. The prayers consist of a series of ten Hail Mary prayers
divided by prayers such as the Lord's Prayer and Our Father. Meditation is
further focused on the Mysteries of Redemption consisting of three series of
five verses regarding Jesus and Mary's Joy, Sorrow, and Gloria described as
being the Joyful, Glorious and Sorrowful mysteries. It is therefore desirable
for the believer to combine both the mental meditation and vocalization when
saying the prayers.
Abstract: A hand held apparatus for
prompting and or teaching the recitation of prayers associated with the Rosary
including a highly decorative and compact electronic, battery-powered instrument
that may be worn as decoration and held in the user's hand for easy operation,
the apparatus having audio and prayer tracking capability utilizing a
microprocessor for controlling a plurality of miniature lights clustered around
a large centrally located sequencing button in conjunction with a voice message
used to prompt the user by audibly reciting the first portion of a prayer,
thereby eliciting a response by the user for the remaining portion of the prayer
before continuing stepping through the sequential prayers of the Rosary. The
apparatus is further distinguishable by a decorative cross serving as the power
on and reset switch, the cross having lights at each point which are sequenced
on initial activation to make the sign of the cross with lights. Speakers are
provided having volume controls for use with group prompting and remote earplugs
are provided for personal meditative use.

Financial screening system In an
on-line financial screening service, a database of financial and intellectual
property information is searched to find at least one financial security
matching user defined financial search criteria. Selection preferences for a
financial security are defined as search criteria. The databases are repeatedly
searched for records matching the financial selection criteria preferences of
the user. Financial securities meeting the users search criteria are then
matched to an intellectual property database to determine the number of patents
a financial security has been issued
Laptop Display The
invention includes a computer projector in a portable computer or PDA device.
The lightweight, relatively low power display, only adds a few ounces of weight
to the computer. It can project a large image display on a screen or wall. In
several configurations taught by the patent, the LCD and active matrix displays,
a considerable component of the cost of any computer or laptop, are eliminated.
The projection device images onto the laptop cover panel, saving hundreds of
dollars in manufacturing cost. Put the display cover in the projector position
and you can project an image onto a large wall for group
viewing.
